Samsung launches ‘Smart View’ App to put Smart TV in the palm of your hand

Enjoy your favourite TV shows and movies away from the sofa
LONDON – June 24th, 2011 Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., the UK’s number one TV brand1, today reveals the Samsung ‘Smart View’ app that enables users to share content between their Samsung Smart TVs and mobile devices.

Available for the Samsung Galaxy S II and at a later date for other Samsung Galaxy devices, the free ‘Smart View’ app means convergence between entertainment devices in the home is now a reality. The app works by displaying the content from the Samsung Smart TV on the mobile device’s screen over a home’s WiFi network, regardless of whether people are watching TV,  a movie from their Blu-ray player or even content from their camcorder or other devices.

The Smart View app means people can get more out of their TV, smartphone and soon, Galaxy Tab. With summer finally here, never miss a point at Wimbledon and your favourite TV shows and movies from wherever you are in the home on your Galaxy S II smartphone. From one Smart TV, different members of the family can enjoy watching the programme of their choice in the room of their choice on the device of their choice.

Guy Kinnell, Marketing Director for TV, Samsung UK, said: “As the UK’s leading TV brand, we deliver the best in technology and innovation, and Smart View is one such development which will see us continue to lead the TV market. Samsung Smart TV is leading the ‘smart revolution’ not only with the features of Smart TV itself—such as rich content, 2D and 3D picture quality, smart functions and design—but also with input devices using our Qwerty smart remote control, the Samsung Remote app, and now with Smart View.”

Samsung will be demonstrating the Smart View app at Salon Privé this week, giving attendees of the exclusive supercar show a chance to experience the Samsung Smart TV range, as well as other premium Samsung products such as the new Galaxy tab, Galaxy S2 mobile phone and BD HTS Blu- ray player.

Since last April, when Samsung launched ‘Samsung Remote’—an easy-to-use application to deliver general remote control functions while also supporting Smart TV’s special features—the company has once again strengthened convergence between Smart TV and mobile devices through this latest Smart View app offering.

Samsung has consistently brought movies, TV programs, music and other desired content stored on DLNA-certified devices such as PCs, mobile phones and cameras to the large TV screens—and is now extending this function by mirroring images back to mobile devices through this new application.

Samsung will continue to update the Samsung Smart View app with functions such as remote control functionality optimally designed for Smart TV and a “Channel List” option, which lets users search program information and change channels from their mobile devices.

The Samsung Smart View is available in the Android Market for the Galaxy S II smart phone for use with the Samsung Smart TV D7000 and D8000 series. The app will also be available for the Galaxy player in July, along with the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab later this year.
