“Samsung Smart TV Challenge” opens to European developers in Europe with a total prize 500,000 Euros.

Samsung electronics is going to carry out its TV application contest in the world’s largest TV market Europe as well to find new and striking smart TV applications after holding events in Korea and the U.S.

Samsung Electronics held “Samsung Smart TV Application Developers day”, its briefing session for smart TV application developers, at wine exhibition hall Vinopolice which is located at Bankside in London, U.K. on October 18, 2010 (local time).

“Samsung Smart TV Developers day” is part of Samsung’s TV application contests “Samsung Smart TV Challenge” which has begun in Europe on September 30, 2010, to help developers understand better about Samsung TV platform and expand marketing opportunities of smart TV application.

Meanwhile, European’s interest in South Korean TV is surging as the 14% tariff on TV is about to be removed in five years due to South Korea-EU FTA. Especially, “Samsung Smart TV Developers Day” became the center of focus of the public attention because it was the first official event that a major South Korean company has held with its representative product, smart TV, after the governments signed South Korea-EU FTA.

After South Korea-EU FTA, awareness of South Korean companies and products is expected to increase in the European market, and this event is considered as the first step to integrate into management performance such as the substantial expansion of businesses.

Starting with the event in London, England, Samsung Electronics is holding “Samsung Smart TV Developer’s day” in Paris, France on October 19 and in Frankfurt, Germany on October 21, 2010.

At the “Samsung Smart TV Developers day” event in London, U.K., a number of application developers and major officials from the major public broadcaster “BBC”, software application company with wired/wireless video calls “Skype”, and UK-based video-on-demand company “Blinkbox” attended the event.

For “Samsung Smart TV Developer Challenge” starting with its website on September 30, 2010, applicants are going to submit their final apps by January 21, 2011 and Samsung will announce the contest’s winner in February 2011.

Total prize of “Samsung Smart TV Developer Challenge” is 500,000 Euros, and the prize money for the best contest’s winner will go up to 75,000 Euros.

The award-winning applications will be serviced through ‘Samsung Apps’ for users in about 120 countries all over the world.
